Skeena Bulkey Valley MP Taylor Bachrach has released data that indicates Northwest B.C. has received a significantly higher share of federal infrastructure spending per person than the rest of the province.
Bachrach who is also the NDP’s Infrastructure Critic said in an email, “Among BC’s 29 regional districts, North Coast, Stikine, Central Coast and Kitimat-Stikine Regional Districts all fall within the top ten in terms of federal infrastructure spending per person.”
Overall the federal investment in the Canada Infrastructure Plan totaled $3,087 per person in the Northwest which almost tripled the provincial average of $1,127.
Bachrach also said the numbers highlight that progress is being made in ensuring northern communities get fair and equitable access to federal infrastructure funding.
The findings are based on publicly available data from Infrastructure Canada on funding since 2016 through the Investing in Canada Plan and Statistics Canada information for Regional Districts.
