The federal government has invested in Canada’s response to Covid-19 as well as future preparedness.
In this case they’ve invested in Quebec City-based Medicago, the project is valued at $428 million and will advance Medicago’s virus-like particle vaccine. The vaccine is developed on the company’s unique plant-based production platform. There will also be a large-scale vaccine and antibody production facility established to increase Canada’s domestic biomanufacturing capacity.
The agreement signed by the government would secure up to 76 million doses of their COVID-19 vaccine candidate which is enough to vaccinate 36 million people.
An $18.2 million investment will also be made into Vancouver-based Biotechnology company Precision NanoSystems. This investment will support a $24.27 million project through pre-clinical studies and clinical trials.
The Federal Government has now signed agreements with Medicago, AstraZeneca, Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, Novavax, Pfizer, and Moderna.
