The province is extending support for clean energy projects in the north.
Two northeast First Nations are receiving $1 million for clean energy projects as part of a funding partnership between the Province of B.C., the Government of Canada and New Relationship Trust.
The Fort Nelson First Nation is receiving $500,000 for feasibility and engineering for a geothermal energy generation plant. The Saulteau First Nation in Chetwynd is receiving $500,000 for a wind generation project from the British Columbia Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative. The initiative supports the planning of clean energy projects.
Specific uses for the funds from the trust include, feasibility, site selection, environmental review, permitting, project design and engineering. In total, 13 communities throughout the province are receiving almost $2.8 million.
