B.C. has once again extended the provincial state of emergency.
The extension of the provincial state of emergency comes as B.C. is beginning to see an uptick in Covid-19 cases. Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General can continue to use the extraordinary powers under the Emergency Program Act.
Premier John Horgan said in a statement, “the vast majority of British Columbians are following Dr. Henry’s orders of seeing fewer faces in bigger spaces, but we all have to remain committed to flattening the curve.”
The state of emergency is extended until Sept. 1, allowing the government to continue to battle the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of the most recent steps under the act include, a review of layoff and recall rights of unionized workers in B.C.’s hotel sector, getting schools ready for the fall semester and working with the federal government to ensure that B.C. Ferries is eligible for transit funding.
