RCMP say searchers found the body of a missing rafter near Kitimat Sunday.
Search crews found the 41-year-old Terrace man in a remote area not far from where he was swept downstream during an incident Saturday.
Mounties say the victim and another man were rafting on the Clore River northeast of Kitimat when their craft capsized.
The other rafter managed to make it to shore and was able to send out an emergency message to police.
“Check river conditions prior to going in the water and to wear the appropriate safety equipment,” said Constable Kurtis Fink of the Kitimat RCMP in a news release. “Have a safety plan in place and utilize satellite communication systems. These remote rivers are incredibly difficult to access and steep rocky canyons offer no chance to turn around or exit”.
Mounties say both men were equipped with PFDs and helmets at the time of the incident.
