Smithers Town Council are issuing their support for a proposed retail cannabis store for the town’s downtown.
During their last regular meeting, council voted unanimously to approve Rural Leaf’s request for a license to open Smithers’ first retail location.
Planned for 1126 Main Street, the store still needs to gain approval from the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch for a provincial license.
Rural Leaf will be subject to all federal, provincial, and municipal restrictions applicable to cannabis locations.
A public meeting was held prior to the vote, with those in attendance largely in support of the store.
Representatives present from Rural Leaf stressed that all owners involved were from Smithers and want to see the best for the community.
