Kitimat RCMP identified a youth suspect after a social media threat involving weapons Monday.
Staff at Mount Elizabeth Secondary School contacted the detachment just after 10:30 a.m. about a Facebook post with a gun, knife, and a caption suggesting the person would be coming to Kitimat with the weapons.
Police say they located a youth suspect and that there is no concern for public safety.
Kitimat RCMP are reassuring the community that public safety is the detachment’s first priority and that threats of this nature are taken seriously.
“We have a duty to thoroughly investigate these threats and the police will take steps to protect the public if and when there are credible safety concerns,” says Constable Kurtis Fink in a news release.
Police are reminding the public to report any suspicious or alarming social media posts.
RCMP say the incident is still under investigation.
