Concerns over smoke visible above the landfill have prompted the Kitimat fire department to issue a statement.
Fire Chief Trent Bossence says they are well aware of the smoke.
According to Bossence, the smoke is the result of controlled burns being conducted to clear land for a Coastal GasLink metering station.
All propper permits have been issued for the burns, and the fire department is continuing to monitor weather conditions, as well as the fire’s activity.
