A wildfire north of Telegraph Creek has exploded in growth.
The BC Wildfire Service says the Alkali Lake fire, about 5km north of Telegraph Creek, has grown to 4000 hectares and has been very agressive.
High winds and continued dry conditions have challenged firefighting efforts on the blaze and forced the evacuation of Telegraph Creek and the surrounding area .
There are currently 95 firefighters, seven helicopters, and seven pieces of heavy equipment fighting the fire.
Crews will focus on the southwest flank to create a further fuel break between the fire and Telegraph Creek.
Officials say they will also work on securing the wooden bridge in the town site and the bridge to the east on Highway 51.
