Friday represented a grim day in the battle against the opioid crisis in BC.
Last Friday’s 130 calls for suspected overdoses ties the record for most calls in a single day, set in April of last year.
According to the BC Emergency Health Service, the jump continues a trend of overdose numbers spiking following the distribution of income assistance, which went out just two days prior.
Though no fatalities were confirmed, the day also puts a dent in the downward trend that had seen a 23 percent drop in overdose deaths this May compared to last May.
