The province is urging coastal residents to conserve water after declaring a drought this morning.
Recent warm and dry conditions have led the Ministry of Forests and Lands to declare a level 3 hydrological drought for the Skeena Nass and Stikine Basins, areas that border Alaska, Haida Gwaii, Vancouver Island, and the Gulf Islands.
While a level 3 drought only calls for voluntary water use restrictions for the moment, the province could begin to regulate water usage should conditions worsen.
Residents of the effected areas are asked to: reduce non-essential water use, limit outdoor watering, take shorter showers, and wait to use large amounts of water until it cools down.
