The provincial government is opening their wallets in support of a new beef packing plant in Prince George.
A 450 thousand dollar commitment was made by the government at the BC Cattleman’s Association annual meeting last week in Smithers.
It’s estimated that the plant will bring 80 full-time jobs to northern BC by 2020, and an additional 620 spinoff jobs from that.
The funding will be used to develop an industry led co-operative business model, support BC ranchers, and determine ownership and operational roles.
The next step for the plant is to search out partnerships to organize the building of the plant.
Construction is expected to begin in 2019.
