Welcome to another episode of Journeys with your host Kelly Kenny. For tonights episode I was lucky to be able to sit with a very special matriarch; Elder Billie Schibler. Elder Billie, also known by her spirit name Purple Harvest Woman, is a Manitoba Métis woman who is from the Crane Clan and follows the Traditional Teaching and Knowledge from her ancestors. Elder Billie has been a Sun Dancer and Knowledge Keeper for more than 30 years. Elders Schibler explains how she became a member of the council of elders and 2012; working very closely with Nuclear Waste Management Organization. Elder Billie spent her life working to protect children youth and the environment with a special focus on water. Elder Billie shares her favourite teaching moments in the next segment. I am aware that in British Columbia we do not have nuclear power but wanted to highlight this organization’s approach to changing how they operate and how Indigenous knowledge is important in moving forward. So stay tuned after the break Elder Billie Schibler and your host Kelly Kenny on Journeys.
