The Fort Nelson First Nation’s development corporation has announced that the Clarke Lake Geothermal Project will be proceeding.
The project is likely to be one of the first geothermal electricity facilities in Canada. The Fort Nelson First Nation will be leading the energy transition by pursuing this 100 per cent Indigenous-owned energy project.
The First Nation has secured nearly $40.5 million in federal funding which includes $38.2 million from NRCan’s Emerging Renewable Power Program.
