With the announcement yesterday that the server’s wage in BC will be eliminated, the BC Chamber of Commerce is taking an unpopular stance.
Chamber President and CEO Val Litwin says that, though they support higher wages in general, the decision to eliminate the server’s wage poses problems to the restaurant industry.
Litwin says that the slim margins that smaller businesses and restaurants already operate at could force them to cut staff due to the changes.
According to Litwin, server’s already make more per hour than other possitions in the industry when tips are added to the equation.
The new rules will see small increases in server wages until 2021.
