A wind warning has been issued for Haida Gwaii and a rainfall warning has been issued for inland sections of the North Coast, including Terrace and Kitimat, as forecasters with Environment Canada say a ‘vigorous’ weather front is approaching.
Along exposed coastal sections of Haida Gwaii the system will bring Southeast winds of 90km/h, with gusts up to 110km/h expected Tuesday morning, February 3rd. The wind should diminish below the threshold for a wind warning by early afternoon, but strong winds will likely persist into Wednesday, February 4th, as a secondary weather system moves in. Localized impacts from high winds are expected.

Inland along the North Coast, including Terrace, Kitimat and the Nass Valley, a rainfall warning has been issued with forecasters calling for between 80mm to 120mm of rain by tomorrow night, Wednesday, February 4th. Rain is expected to intensify today with 40mm to 60mm expected throughout the day on Tuesday, and a further 40mm to 60mm Wednesday. Heavy and sustained rains are expected to significantly reduce visibility at times, with pooling water on roads expected.
Forecasters have advised those on Haida Gwaii and the North Coast to be wary of the potential for storm impacts, including power outages, washouts, localized flooding, travel delays, as well as fallen trees and power lines.
