Highway 16 is currently closed between Port Edward and Terrace due to flooding, with about 82kms of the highway impassible between the Rainbow Avalanche Gates near Port Edward and Shames Mountain Rd near Terrace.
The Ministry of Transportation says no detour is available at this time, but crews are currently assessing the flooding on the terrace side of the Exstew but no timeline for reopening is available at this time.
Elsewhere in the Northwest, Freezing rain falling on top of broken compact snow has triggered travel advisories for most roads in the Nass valley and highway 113 from Kalum Lake North, as well as Highway 16 west of terrace to Kitwanga, and highway 37 north to Dease lake, with authorities advising not to travel the roads in these regions unless absolutely necessary, and to exercise extreme caution when doing so.
Highway 16 on Haida Gwaii remains closed between Tlell and Skidegate due to a washout near Jungle Beach.
