A Terrace-born public servant is set to take on one of the most important civic leadership roles in British Columbia. On July 31st, Vancouver City Council announced the appointment of Donny van Dyk as the city’s next City Manager.
Van Dyk, who officially begins on September 8th, brings extensive public and private sector experience. He is currently the City Manager for Delta, where he helped achieve record-low crime rates and guided key housing initiatives.
Prior to that, he served as City Manager in Penticton, where he led the community through natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic. He also held leadership roles with the District of New Hazelton and worked in Indigenous relations, government affairs, and finance at Enbridge.
As Vancouver’s top civic administrator, van Dyk will oversee a $2.34 billion operating budget, a $880 million capital plan, and a workforce of approximately 9,600 employees.
Mayor Ken Sim praised van Dyk’s results-focused leadership and said he’s the right fit to help move Council’s priorities forward.
Van Dyk is a Chartered Professional Accountant, holds a Master of Public Administration from UVic, and is a graduate of UNBC and Coast Mountain College.
