March Focus on Distracted Driving and Seat Belts in BC

BC Highway Patrol is ramping up enforcement and education efforts this March to combat distracted driving and seat belt violations. Distracted driving, along with speeding and impaired driving, remains one of the top causes of fatal crashes in the province. Despite seat belts being mandatory since 1977, many still fail to use them properly, with over 50 deaths each year attributed to improper use.
BC Highway Patrol reminds drivers that failing to wear a seat belt correctly or engaging in distractions, like using electronic devices, significantly increases the risk of fatal accidents. The focus this month is on ensuring drivers and passengers are properly restrained, and children are in the appropriate car seats or booster seats.
