Fire crews in Smithers tackling a blaze on Victoria Drive

Fire Crews in Smithers are currently tackling a blaze on Victoria Drive, and the Town has asked residents to stay away from the area for the time being.

Witnesses say the fire began a few hours ago at the Inland Truck and Equipment lot. How it started has not yet been determined, but the Town has confirmed the fire has now been contained – although a significant amount of smoke remains in the area.

Authorities have closed sections of 19th Avenue and Victoria Drive to support firefighting efforts, and some nearby businesses have closed temporarily until it’s safe to reach to return to the area.
