Prince Rupert Regional Hospital is set to get major upgrades thanks to a $241,186 donation from the Prince Rupert Port Authority. The funding, announced on January 19, supports the Rampage Fights Cancer campaign and will help purchase equipment to diagnose and treat conditions related to the urinary system and male reproductive organs, including cancer.
The donation matches community contributions raised during the 2024–2025 campaign, which included support from the Rupert Rampage hockey team and local businesses. Hospital staff say the new equipment will improve patient safety, streamline care, and reduce the need for residents to travel outside northwest B.C. for specialized treatment.
PRPA also announced funding for a new endoscopy tower. The tower replaces an 11-year-old system and includes advanced AI-assisted tools to help doctors detect gastrointestinal and bladder diseases earlier.
“This investment strengthens healthcare right here in Prince Rupert and ensures more patients get timely, local care,” said a spokesperson for the North Coast Health Improvement Society.
The hospital expects the new equipment to arrive in the coming months. Community members can follow updates from the Prince Rupert Port Authority, the Rupert Rampage, or the hospital’s website.
