An evacuation order has been issued by the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, effective 9:00 p.m. on January 15th, due to flooding caused by an ice jam on the Kispiox River.
The order applies to the following locations: 2240 Poplar Park Road, 4917 and 4637 Kispiox Valley Road, and Cassiar Land District Lot 2281.
A State of Local Emergency has also been declared for Electoral Area B. Officials say the declaration was made under the Emergency and Disaster Management Act because of risks to public safety and potential property damage.
Residents in the affected areas are required to leave immediately. Flood conditions may change rapidly, and the situation remains unpredictable.
A hazard notice is in effect for all areas along the Kispiox River. People are urged to stay away from riverbanks, move vehicles and equipment to higher ground, and continue monitoring updates from the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine and Environment Canada.
