RCMP in Prince George say they recently cracked down on the local drug trade in the city, highlighting their efforts to put pressure on suspected drug traffickers over the course of 3 days this past weekend.
The Prince George RCMP say on Friday, December 12th, two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants were carried out at two addresses on the 200-block of McIntyre Crescent. Neither search resulted in an arrest, but had turned up drug trafficking paraphernalia, weapons and ammunition, as well as a small suspected quantity of meth.
A third search was carried out at an address on the 1300-block of Pearson Avenue the same day, this time in relation to a stolen property investigation. While no arrests had been made in this case either, RCMP say a firearm and a small quantity of suspected illicit drugs were seized, along with two stolen motorcycles.
On Saturday, December 13th, officers responded to reports of two people asleep in a vehicle on Third Avenue where a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered various weapons, a replica firearm, illicit cigarettes, over $1000 in cash, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and nearly 10 grams of suspected fentanyl, cocaine and meth. A 24-hour driving prohibition was issued to the driver, and both people released. RCMP say charges may be laid based on laboratory results, pending approval by the BC Prosecution Service.
Then on Sunday, a routine traffic stop on Highway 97 revealed that a man in a rental vehicle was in possession of body armor. RCMP say he was arrested and charged for it, then released on-scene with a future court date and the vehicle returned to the rental company.
The Prince George RCMP say they continue to investigate each of these cases, noting that removing weapons, illicit drugs and cigarettes from circulation is one of their top policing priorities.
