North Coast MLA Tamara Davidson says communities on B.C.’s North and Central Coast will be better prepared for emergencies thanks to new provincial funding.
Davidson says coastal communities are often more vulnerable to emergencies, and this investment will help strengthen local emergency operations through better equipment, training, and planning.
Locally, funding is going to:
* Central Coast Regional District – nearly $40,000
* Nuxalk Nation – $40,000 for a generator
* Gitga’at First Nation – $40,000 for equipment, communications and training
* Kitasoo Xai’xais Nation – $40,000 for backup power and communication tools
In total, the province is investing nearly $7 million to support 139 emergency operations centre projects across B.C., aimed at improving coordination and response during crises.
Since 2017, B.C. has invested $369 million into the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund, with about \$23 million going specifically to emergency operations centres. The fund is administered by the Union of BC Municipalities.
