In a statement of support, Eva Clayton, President of the Nisga’a Lisims Government, praised the British Columbia government’s ongoing commitment to economic development in the northwest. Clayton highlighted the significance of the work being done on Nisga’a Lands, particularly as BC’s first modern treaty partner. The Nisga’a Nation’s involvement in partnerships such as the “Circle of Certainty” with the Tahltan Nation has helped bring vital investment and growth to the region. This collaboration is paving the way for expanded opportunities in local communities, including new businesses, jobs, and essential infrastructure. Clayton pointed to a new shuttle service launching in one of their smallest communities, which is supported by local entrepreneurs and regional suppliers, as an example of how partnerships between Indigenous communities and the BC government are creating tangible benefits. She also commended the province for working with Indigenous communities to ensure shared prosperity, recognizing that economic solutions thrive when communities come together. After over a century of struggle, the Nisga’a Nation now stands at the table, helping to shape BC’s economic future.
