BC Highway Patrol is increasing its presence on the roads this Victoria Day long weekend to curb dangerous driving behavior. Officers will be visible throughout the province, with patrols in marked and unmarked vehicles, as well as check stops at major traffic locations. Their focus will be on impaired, distracted, and aggressive drivers, as well as those failing to wear seatbelts. The Highway Patrol will be particularly active in high-traffic regions like Kamloops, Vancouver Island, and the Sea to Sky Corridor. The goal is to reduce accidents during a weekend traditionally known for its high risk, with an average of three deaths and nearly 2,200 crashes each year. As part of the larger High Risk Driving and Motorcycle Awareness campaign, this effort includes joint operations with local police and the use of spotters in high-altitude locations to spot dangerous drivers. Officers will work around the clock, ensuring safer roads across the province this weekend.
