An extension to the deadline to apply for compensation through the Indian Residential Schools Day Scholars Class Action has been issued.
Settled in 2021, the suit seeks to compensate those who attended residential schools during the day, but did not stay overnight.
Despite not being held at the institutions full time, Day Scholars still suffered extensive abuse leading to generations of trauma.
Under the settlement, most survivors and attendees who died on or after May 30th, 2005, can apply for $10,000 in compensation.
Initially, the deadline to apply for compensation had been set for last week, but has now been pushed ahead to January 4th of next year.
