A renewed 10 year Canada Funding Agreement was announced today to support equal access to quality care for Indigenous People.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was joined by leaders of the First Nations Health Authority and First Nations Health Council to announce $8.2 billion in funding.
That amount will go towards the first of its kind FNHA to continue their delivery of health services to over 200 first nations communities in the Province.
Those services include the development of supports for mental health and wellness needs, and increasing access to culturally safe and non-discriminatory care.
The funding will also help the FNHA to strengthen coordination with provincial healthcare services to better meet the unique needs of first nations communities.
It also comes following the recently announced Health Equity Fund which will see $2 billion invested over 10 years to adress unique challenges that Indigenous people face in the health care system.
First signed 10 years ago, the province’s First Nations Health Governance Structure gives first nations control over the design and delivery of health care services.
