Housing sales in Northern BC returned to average levels last year, following a record spike in 2021, though prices remained elevated.
According to the BC Northern Real Estate Board, a total of 4,250 units changed hands in 2022, a 23 percent decline from the prior year.
That comes after a record sales-pace to start the year was offset by soaring inflation rates in the fourth quarter.
In Terrace, 276 properties were sold in 2022 for an average rate of $417,000, compared to 395 sales the year before.
Kitimat actually saw in increase of sale, going from 192 in 2021, to 202 last year for an average price of $360,000.
Prince Rupert recorded 190 sales last year for an average of $435,000, a massive drop from the 279 homes sold in 2021.
3 properties sold in the Iskut and Atlin area, averaging $433,000, and 39 sold in the Hazeltons for a $275,000 cost average.
Most average costs remained within a few thousand of the previous year, but were on average $90,000 more expensive than in 2020.
