Structure Fire at Fort Telkwa Causes Extensive Damage to Old Store Building

A structure fire at the Fort Telkwa Campgrounds yesterday afternoon had fire crews from both Smithers and Telkwa springing into action.

Crews responded to the blaze, which had ignited in an old store on the campgrounds, at around 1:00 in the afternoon.

With no fire hydrants in sight, crews were forced to draw water from a pumper truck to fight the flames, with frigid temperatures posing additional problems.

Eventually, fire fighters were able to extinguish the fire, but not before it caused significant damage to the store.

No injuries were reported as a result, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
