A man injured while allegedly trying to run-over a police officer near Topley is now facing a slew of possible criminal charges.
Chief among them are charges of attempted murder of a police officer, stemming from what started as a theft investigation on August 30th.
That incident saw Houston RCMP called on for reports of a break and enter at a lodge in Topley Landing, just before 4:00 in the morning.
Police set up a staging area at a bridge in the area, and eventually noticed a truck towing a boat believed to be stolen from the lodge.
When they tried to stop him, police say the driver drove directly at an officer, who fired his gun in response, injuring the driver’s wrist.
Later identified as Thomas Kennedy, the man is now facing charges of attempted murder, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and the initial break and enter.
He is set to appear in court again later in the month, and the Independent Investigations Office is looking into police culpability.
