A heat wave rolling through BC this week has prompted Extreme Heat Warnings for the Northcoast, Central Coast, Cariboo, and Bulkley Valley and Lakes.
On the Northcoast, near Terrace and Kitimat, as well as Central Coast, daytime temperatures are expected to hit the low 30s, and only drop to around 15 degrees over night.
In the Bulkley Valley, Lakes District, Cariboo, and near Prince George, daytime temperatures will stick between the high 20s and mid-30s, dropping to the mid-teens overnight.
With temperatures this high, the risk of heat-related illnesses increase, especially for the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses.
Residents are advised to drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and strenuous activities, remain indoors as much as possible, and prepare a heat plan.
Residents of the north are reminded that, even if outdoor temperatures are high, rivers are mountain-fed and their temperatures may remain frigid.
