The Independent Investigations Office of BC are looking into an incident involving the Prince George RCMP from yesterday.
Initially, Prince George RCMP responded to a call about a theft that resulted in a physical altercation involving a suspect in their detachment cells.
Police were able to track down a suspect near the site of the theft and arrested the man, who not only had a firearm on his person, but already had an outstanding arrest warrant.
The man was then taken to Prince George’s detachment cells where a physical altercation started, resulting in the suspect getting shot by one of the officers.
Both the suspect and the officer required medical attention after the altercation.
As a result, BC’s Independent Investigations Office will be investigating to gather more info on police involvement prior to the shots being fired.
