A water quality advisory which had been in place in the Kitimat for more than a month has now been rescinded.
With Kitimat’s current water system not meeting water quality standards, advisories, such as the one issued on June 2nd, are not uncommon.
But, the District of Kitimat has applied to multiple grant streams recently to cover the estimated $8 million cost of modernizing the system.
In January, the District applied for joint provincial-federal funding through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
But, despite staff’s believing the application had a high approval chance, they have not yet heard back.
Earlier this week, Council voted to also apply for the federal Canada Community Building Fund, which would cover $6 million of the project.
