A partial settlement of the West Moberly First Nation’s civil claim over the Site-C mega-dam project has been reached with the province, BC Hydro, and Ottawa
That claim asserts that existing hydroelectric dams and the impacts of resource development on the Nation’s territory, are an infringement of their treaty rights.
Part of the agreement includes an impact and benefits agreement and a pair of contracting opportunity agreements with BC Hydro.
A tripartite land agreement has also been forged with the province and BC Hydro, along with an agreement over the release of the Nation’s claims against the project.
In their settlement with Canada, the Nation has agreed to end litigation related to Site C, and pause the remainder of their claim and enter government-to-government resolution discussions.
