After a brief reprieve, flood risks are on the rise again for some of the North, though risks in the Northwest remain relatively low.
Rising temperatures and heavy rainfall on the horizon have prompted the River Forecast Centre to issue new alerts and expand existing ones.
A new High-Streamflow Advisory has been issued covering the entirety of the Nechako River.
The Centre is also maintaining a High Streamflow Advisory covering the Liard River and its tributaries near Fort St John, Taylor, Dawson Creek, Moberly Lake, and Hudson’s Hope.
In the Northeast, a Flood Watch which had been covering the Liard and its tributaries near Fort Nelson and Watson Lake, has been expanded to cover streams in the Northern Rockies as well.
But forecasted flows in the Skeena and Bulkley are still predicted to cap out at 2 year flood levels, though heavy rain could change that.
Meanwhile, the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, Town of Smithers, and Village of Telkwa have all lifted hazard notices which had covered the Bulkley.
