RBC has released a document revealing 19 of the 20 people that will be receiving their Future Launch Indigenous Youth Scholarship for this year.
The one name missing wishes to remain anonymous.
The main purpose of the scholarship is to help get rid of the barriers that prevent Canadian Indigenous youth from getting the post-secondary education they seek.
As of right now, only 44 percent of Indigenous kids aged 18 to 24 completed High School and general access to post secondary training is limited, which has negative effects on individuals and communities.
Some of this year’s recipients include Alysha Johnny Hawkins from the Tahltan Nations, Annah Setter from the Secwepemc Nation and Brendan Eshom of the Gitga’at First Nation.
