A prominent street in Prince George will soon no longer bear the name of a former Residential School principal.
Prince George City Council has unanimously voted to rename O’Grady Road, named after former Catholic Bishop John Fergus O’Grady.
O’Grady was the first bishop of the Prince George Diocese, and prior to that, served as principal of the Kamloops Residential School.
Lheildi T’enneh Chief Dolleen Logan initially requested the change to the new name of Dakelh Ti, which means “First Nations Road” in the Dakelh tongue.
While an official date for the renaming has not yet been made, the City has already informed utility and mailing companies of the upcoming change.
