BC’s unemployment rate dropped to a three-year low of 4.5 percent in May, according to StatsCan’s latest Labour Force Survey.
That’s a figure not seen since July of 2019 and is a significant improvement over April’s 5.4 percent rate, and 7 percent from last May.
That compares to a Canada-wide rate of 5.4 percent, with BC tailing only Quebec’s 4.2 percent rate among the provinces.
Within BC, the North Coast and Nechako region registered the lowest unemployment rate at 4.1 percent, a drastic change from the 6.5 percent rate from May of last year.
