Flood risks may be on a downward trend, but WorkSafeBC is reminding employers that that doesn’t mean they can’t surge again.
WorkSafe is taking the opportunity to remind employers of their responsibilities when it comes to flood risk preparation.
Employers are required under Occupational Health and Safety Regulations to plan, prepare, and train their employees for all emergencies.
That includes planning for evacuation and rescue if workers are put at risk, such as those working in remote areas, or backcountry, where conditions can quickly change and cut off access, or claim roads.
To help employers prepare, they have prepared a set of emergency evacuation planning guidelines, which you can find at this link.
