A number of amendments to the 2016 Great Bear Rainforest Land Use Order have been proposed for public review by the province.
Those amendments follow the completion of the technical analysis portion of their 5 year review on preservation and protection of the Rainforest.
Conducted in partnership with First Nations and stakeholders, the review looks in to the implementation of an ecosystem based management system.
Through that system, they hope to strike a balance between conservation and economic development in a way which supports local communities, and the ecosystem.
Proposed amendments include: increased First Nations oversight, strengthening protections for important fisheries watersheds, a landscape reserve design process which enables First Nations to take a stronger role, and increased protections for wildlife.
Residents have 60 days to provide input on the proposal, with more information on how to do so through this link.
