Chief Joe Alphonse is among a delegation of Tŝilhqot’in members sent to Europe to raise awareness over Indigenous rights and reconciliation in Canada.
Over the course of the trip, the delegates will make a number of stops in Northern Europe, kicking things off with a visit to London on Monday.
That stop saw them meet with Canada’s High Commissioner to the UK, Ralph Goodale.
Also on the schedule is a visit to the Hague, the Netherlands seat of government, for meetings with Shell over reforestation work on Tsilhqot’in territory, and goals for a carbon-neutral future.
While in the Netherlands, Chief Alphonse will host a seminar at the Hague University of Applied Science.
Afterwards, the trip will wrap up with a visit to Sweden for discussions on mining and culture with the Sami people, who are Indigenous to Scandinavia.
