British Columbia has identified its first confirmed case of monkeypox, coming from a Vancouver resident.
Monkeypox has surged back in to headlines the past few weeks, after nearly 800 cases were detected in countries normally void of the illness.
Prior to this most recent finding, there had been 77 confirmed cases in Canada, with 71 in Quebec, 5 in Ontario, and one in Alberta.
Monkeypox is a viral disease predominantly found in West Africa, known for forming a rash of blisters across the skin.
Early symptoms include a fever, rash, headaches, drowsiness, and swollen lymph nodes.
It generally spreads through droplets and open sores or wounds.
