Wetter conditions and cooler temperatures which have kept wildfire risks low so far are not expected to continue in to the late summer.
Those conditions are expected to maintain through most of the province, with some exceptions, through June.
However, conditions in the Rocky Mountain Trench, South Cariboo, and Thompson-Okanagen are drier than usual and are being monitored by the Wildfire Service.
But, for the rest of the province, the Service expects the wet conditions to let up in late July, with temperatures expected to quickly warm up.
Unusual conditions such as these often lead to drastic or prolonged wildfire seasons, but the province hopes new investments can prevent a season like last year’s.
In Budget 2022, the province announced a record $359 million in wildfire prevention and preparedness funding.
