Newly released data from the BC River Forecast Centre shows a considerable increase in flood risks over the past two months.
According to their May 1st snow survey, snow pack levels have hit 113 percent of usual levels, a 14 percent increase over April 1st.
Snow pack measurements came in at 137 percent in the Skeena-Nass, 145 percent in the Stikine, 132 percent in the Nechako, and 152 percent on the Central Coast, which includes Kitimat.
These unusually large snow packs, combined with colder than average temperatures, are to blame for the jump in flood risk.
According to the Centre, a rapid temperature increase, such as the heat dome experienced last June, could lead to significant flooding.
