Provincial plans to invest $789 million in a new Royal BC Museum, are not sitting well with the Tsilhqot’in Nation.
In a press release sent out yesterday, the Nation expressed that they were frustrated by the government investing money into museums over other, more pressing, issues.
According to the Nation, the funding would be better spent on helping families deal with the costs of inflation or address the doctor shortage that has been exasperated during the pandemic.
Provincial plans to modernize the museum include efforts to remove colonial aspects from the exhibits, though many have said the idea of the museum is inherently colonial.
Over 300 people made their way to the grounds of BC Legislature earlier today to express their concerns over BC’s lack of family doctors as well as question why the museum is being funded over those issues.
