In a trial that saw a former BC legislature clerk being accused of five different charges of fraud, Craig James was found guilty on only one count of fraud and one count of breach of trust.
While an official case verdict has not yet been determined in this BC Supreme Court trial, Heather Holmes, Associate Chief Justice of the supreme court, has determined that the other three charges against James were unable to be proven.
The charges against James were conceived after he allegedly used legislative funds to purchase a number of items that appeared to be for personal use.
James was found guilty of breach of trust and fraud for his purchasing of $1,800 in clothes from Vancouver and London.
However, James was found not guilty of breach of trust for both collecting a $258,000 long-time service benefit and for the purchase of a wood splitter.
James resigned from his position back in 2019 and since he left his position, guidelines have been created for the legislative assembly to prevent a situation such as this one from happening again.
