Yesterday, it was revealed that most of BC’s libraries are going to be able to give themselves some upgrades thanks to provincial funding.
The Province will be providing a one time $8-million-dollar investment for COVID relief to 71 of BC’s public libraries that will be used to enhance programming, create better air circulation, expand digital collections as well as make sure that internet is available all day.
Some of the notable libraries receiving funding include Burns Lake getting $31,682, the Cariboo Regional District getting $127,946, Chetwynd getting $33,469, Terrace receiving $42,253, Prince Rupert will receive $38,784 and Smithers will see $33,862.
This funding will also be used to help out 3 library service partners and 6 library federations.
Those Libraries will be able to use this funding not only for upgrades, but also to fill in the holes that the pandemic created such as changing up their physical spaces and even creating programs that will allow people to create better social connections.
