Parallel Wood Products Ltd in Williams Lake has been fined just over $30,000 for repeated high-risk safety violations.
In January, a worker was seriously injured while clearing a jam in the infeed roll of a planer machine.
While investigating the incident, WorkSafeBC found it to be common practice at the plant to stop the infeed roll via the operator’s console.
This process does not physically cut off the power source from the roll.
In addition, WorkSafe found no written procedure requiring the de-energization and lockout of the machine prior to dealing with jams.
They also determined that Parallel repeatedly failed to provide adequate training or supervision to ensure health and safety is upkept.
