British Columbians will have once final chance to have their voice heard by BC’s provincial Electoral Boundaries Commission during their preliminary phase.
With protections for rural ridings removed this year, and the Commission looking to add 6, northern districts could be at risk of being changed.
Unless necessary to provide adequate representation, the Commission is directed to recommend districts be within 25 percent of the average population.
For 2022, that comes in at 57,000, putting just 2 of the north’s 9 districts within the recommended range.
Tomorrow at 5:00 in the evening, the Commission will hold the final meeting before the release of their preliminary report.
You can follow this link to the Zoom meeting, as well as the log-in info to join.
While the Commission will continue to accept input online, this will be the final chance to present to the Commission.
Another round of consultations will begin following the release of the preliminary report in October.
